Former U.S. Senator Mark Kirk Endorses Bob Fioretti (Cook County, IL) Former U.S. Senator Mark Kirk today formally endorsed Cook County State’s Attorney candidate Bob Fioretti.
Kirk, who served as a Congressman from the North Shore for ten years before his election to the Senate, said Fioretti is exactly the kind of State’s Attorney Cook County needs. “Bob will restore the office of State’s Attorney to what it is supposed to be,” Kirk said. “He will enforce the law as it is written, stand up for law enforcement, and speak for the victims of violent crime.”
A retired US Naval Reserve Commander, Kirk said he and Fioretti have much in common, “I liked Fioretti when he was a fiscally responsible, pro-law enforcement moderate Democrat,” Kirk said. “Now that he has seen the light and come to our side, Bob will make an excellent State’s Attorney.”
Kirk and Fioretti also share survival stories from serious personal health care crises. In 2012, while serving in the Senate, Kirk suffered a serious stroke. The freshman Senator defied the odds and not only survived to finish out his term but to also run a robust re-election campaign. His courage in continuing to serve in the Senate in the face of such personal adversity still serves as an example for families suffering from stroke. Fioretti, while serving in the City Council Fioretti survived throat cancer, which he was diagnosed with in late-2010. Despite several rounds of radiation, Fioretti never missed a City Council meeting, and won re-election as Alderman in 2011.
Fioretti said he was honored to receive the endorsement of the most recent Republican elected to the U.S. Senate from Illinois. “Senator Mark Kirk exemplifies great public service,” Fioretti said. “It is an honor to get the endorsement of a national treasure like Mark.”
“In addition to being a model public servant, Mark is a decorated veteran, and an accomplished lawyer who knows how to win votes in areas not traditionally Republican,” Fioretti said.
