White Sox take tough loss in extra innings (Chicago, Illinois) – After yesterday’s tight victory the White Sox were ready to swing and placed Dylan Cease at the mound to throw out the first pitch of the game. In the bottom of the 2nd, White sox batter Leury Garcia hit a 2-run homer to right field for the first runs of the game. In the top of the 3rd, Red Sox batter Rafael Devers was walked for an RBI. Soon after, Red Sox batter Alex Verdugo hit a single RBI to left field. Next batter up was Bobby Dalbec, who struck a single RBI. Next up was Travis Shaw, who launched a fly ball to right field for a 3-run home run.  After the homer, White Sox pitcher Ryan Burr relieved Cease to close the inning. By the end of the 3rd inning the White Sox trailed the Red Sox 7-2. In the bottom of the 4th inning, White Sox batter Brian Goodwin was walked and received an RBI. Soon after, Luis Robert hit a 3-run double that closed lead. The next batter up was Yoan Moncada, who hit a line drive to left field for an RBI double.  By the end of the 4th inning the score was tied at 7-7.   

A Competitive Game

In the top of the 5th, White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech replaced Burr at the mound. In the bottom of the 5th, White Sox batter Yasmani Grandal hit a solo homer to right field.  By the end of the 5th inning, the White Sox took the lead with the score at 8-7.  In the top of the 7th, White Sox pitcher Aaron Bummer replaced Kopech at the mound to throw for no damage in the 7th inning.  In the top of the 8th, White Sox pitcher Craig Kimbrel replaced Bummer. Soon after, Red Sox batter Enrique Hernandez flew out but snagged an RBI to tie the game at 8-8. In the top of the 9th, White Sox pitcher Liam Hendriks took the mound to throw for no runs. With the game going into extra innings White Sox pitcher Mike Wright took the mound. Red Sox batter Travis Shaw hit a single RBI to take the lead over the White Sox. In the bottom of the 10th inning the White Sox couldn’t secure a run and the Red Sox beat the White Sox 9-8.
