White Sox struggle to gain traction in first game in Houston (Houston, Texas) – In the first game of the league’s divisional series, the White Sox traveled to Houston to play ball. White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn took the mound in the bottom of the 1st to throw for no damage. In the top of the 2nd inning, White Sox batter Luis Robert was caught stealing 2nd base for the final out to send the game into the bottom of the 2nd.  In the bottom of the 2nd Astros pitcher Jake Meyers singled on a line drive to right field for an RBI single and the first run of the day.  The White Sox trailed the Astros 1-0 going into the 3rd inning.  In the bottom of the 3rd inning Astros batter Alex Bregman reached on a fielder’s choice for another run.  Next batter up was Yordan Alvarez who doubled on a ball to center field that brought the score to 3-0 Astros.  In the top of the 4th all 3 White Sox batters grounded out against the Astros impressive defense.  In the bottom of the 4th Astros batter Michael Brantley hit a 2-run single that extended the lead over the White Sox.  After that the White Sox pulled Lynn off the mound and replaced him with White Sox pitcher Reynaldo Lopez to throw for the last out of the inning.

White Sox Struggle to Find Pitching Solution

In the bottom of the 5th inning Alvarez took the mound again, this time smashing the ball to center field for a solo home run.  In the bottom of the 6th inning White Sox pitcher Garrett Crocket took the mound for Lopez to close the inning.  In the top of the 7th White Sox batter Yasmani Grandal grounded into a double play to advance the game.  In the bottom of the 7th White Sox batter Jose Ruiz replaced Crochet at the mound to close inning with no damage.  In the top of the 8th inning White Sox batter Jose Abreu hit a line drive to right field for an RBI and the White Sox first run of the day.  By the end of the 8th inning the score was 6-1 Astros.  In the top of the 9th inning the Astros shut down the White Sox with 2 strikeouts and a groundout to close the game.  The Astros beat the White Sox 6-1.
