Violent and Dangerous Convicted Felon Quintin Barton Allegedly Embezzles from The Southland Journal and Harasses Local Politicians (Harvey, IL) — Former Southland Journal contractor, Quintin J. Barton, has had his contract terminated after he was found to have removed printed newspapers from the loading dock of the Southland Journal’s printer without prior authorization. Furthermore, allegations of unprofessional behavior and harassment were made apparent to management by advertisers. It was also discovered that several of the locations that were on the distribution list were not delivered to in weeks to months, despite receiving full payment for delivering to the entire distribution list.

Barton has a history of violent behavior. In October 2009, he plead guilty to Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons in Jackson County, IL.

According to The Southland Journal, for the past several months, Barton has been contracted to deliver newspapers throughout the Southland region. His delivery route consisted of nearly 300 locations, including gas stations, grocery stores, convenience stores, and more.

The Southland Journal’s editor stated that Barton reached out on Friday, May 27, 2022 to get his delivery route and pickup time. He was told to wait, as it was discovered that several locations had not been delivered to. The distribution list was also being refined at that time and needed to be completed. The following evening, however, it was discovered that about one-third of the newspapers had been picked up from the distribution dock without permission and consent, and were delivered to some locations.

Most recently, political advertisers with The Southland Journal reached out with allegations of harassment, saying that Barton reached out to them to express his disdain.

“I find this situation to be completely outrageous. I asked [Barton] to wait very clearly. I have the text messages here. And he didn’t. He took it upon himself to steal our papers while we were working out the issues we had with him. I’m honestly baffled and disappointed,” said Southland Journal editor in chief Erica Chiang. She continued, “He has a history of being a political consultant. He does various things for campaigns such as collecting signatures and delivering literature. To find that he would do this really calls into question his integrity as a political consultant. After looking back on our interactions with one another, I really believe that he probably does this all the time.”

The Southland Journal has taken the steps to file a police report with the Harvey Police Department to address the theft allegations.
