Village of Dolton employees don’t receive paychecks (Dolton, IL) – It’s payday for Village of Dolton employees but as of Friday morning, no employee had received a paycheck.

That information was confirmed by Trustees Jason House and Kiana Belcher. House said he found out about the matter around 8 a.m. on Sept. 10 and called the village’s finance department right after.

“Our finance department is our consultant, so I called the senior partner and the day-to-day person to ask what happened,” he said. “They gave me some explanation. Subsequent to that I heard from another member of the administration giving explanations but I instructed everyone that the top priority is getting everyone paid, working on that and we’ll regroup after people are paid.”

Trustee Kiana Belcher said so far, there isn’t an understanding of what happened or why employees haven’t been paid.

“We just got an email saying we’ll know something by noon,” she said, noting she hopes employees are able to get paid today. “I dont know if it’s poor management or staff just being overwhelmed. I really don’t know.”

House said he wants employees to get paid immediately but his “realistic expectation is that everyone will be paid by tomorrow.”

“Our employees are entirely too valuable to have anything like this happen, so this is a serious matter and given the time sensitivity of it, I think time is best spent getting payment in the employees hands instead of arguing with the staff about who messed up but we will find out what happened and get to the bottom of it.”

Sherry Britton, a former village employee, said she heard from six current employees who said they hadn’t been paid.

“One employee told me that they’d be there for 10 years and nothing like that has ever happened to them,” Britton said. “They’ve had mistakes on their paycheck but nothing like this.”

“It’s terrible,” she added. “Imagine if you didn’t get your paycheck. People have mortgages and bills that are due that come out (of their paychecks). What if the money isn’t there?”

Mayor Tiffany Henyard directed the Southland Journal to Village Spokesperson Sean Howard for comment. He did not respond to a request for comment.

  1. Why would Henyard refer you to someone who no longer works for the village as spokesperson. Why would she not comment herself. She’s the Mayor, she should know.

  2. I find it interesting that she would refer someone to Howard when he no longer works there. How come she didn’t answer the question directly? If anyone would know, she would, right?
