Tinley Park-Park District Rolls Out Unplug Illinois Campaign (Tinley Park, IL) — Tinley Park-Park District announced that it will participate in Unplug Illinois Day on Saturday, July 9, 2022.

Unplug Illinois is a statewide movement from Illinois Park and Recreation Association designed to get people to “unplug” from electronic devices and get out and engage with one another through active play opportunities at their local park and recreation agency. Unplug Illinois promotes healthier lifestyles, sustainable environments, thriving economies and engaged communities.

The benefits of unplugging from technology drives people to plug in to community, plug in to activity and plug in to friends. Unplugging has been shown to help improve your quality of life, help you feel more recharged every day, help you sleep better and improve your interpersonal communication. “We are celebrating Unplug Illinois during July and encourage the community to explore and take advantage of all the unplugged fun the Tinley Park-Park District offers,” said Executive Director, Shawn Roby.

On July 9, the Tinley Park-Park District is hosting Chalk the Walk at The Band Shell located at Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center, 8125 171st Street in Tinley Park. Everyone is invited to this free ‘unplugged’ event from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The District will provide sidewalk chalk for participants to decorate the sidewalks and paths around Community Park with art and positive comments! Games and giveaway are also part of this fun morning. The first 50 families to arrive receive a free disposable camera to capture their unplugged adventures. When participants return the camera to the Park District, the photos will be processed and digitally shared with the family.

The Tinley Park-Park District campaign includes an Unplug Illinois Activity Guide filled with activities for individuals and families. The Unplug Illinois Activity Guide is available at the Chalk the Walk event, at the front desk of Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center and Tinley Fitness, on the Park District’s Unplug Illinois website, tinleyparkdistrict.org/unplug-Illinois/. New this year is the Playground Passport adventure. Participants are challenged to visit the playgrounds listed on the passport and answer the question about each.

The Activity Guide includes a raffle ticket for a Plug Into Play kit. There are many ways to enter the raffle:  Attend the Chalk the Walk event on July 9; attend the pop-up StoryWalk® scheduled for July 2022, return any of the Unplugged activity pages including the Playground Passport, to the Recreation Center; share photos from your Playground Passport adventure using #tinleyparkdistrictFUN!  Any Playground Passport that has correct answers to all questions, is entered into an additional raffle for a complementary Park Pavilion Rental in 2023 and a Picnic Play kit. All entries must be received by the Park District by August 4, 2022. Winners will be notified by August 10, 2022.

The Tinley Park-Park District is grateful for the support of Republic Bank in the Unplug Illinois events, giveaways and raffle prizes. Jack Nick, SVP/Marketing & eCommerce Director for Republic Bank stated, “As a community bank in actions and not just words, our partnership with Tinley Park-Park District is very important to us. The alignment of our core values and desire to make a positive impact in the lives of those who live in our community is critical to our collective success. We’re proud to support their events and efforts and look forward to a strong relationship in the years to come.”
