The White Sox swept the city series against the Cubs (Chicago, Illinois) – The White Sox wanted to sweep the city series and they came out swinging for the fences. The first pitch of the game was thrown to White Sox batter Tim Anderson who crushed the ball to right center field for the first run of the game.  Next at-bat was White Sox batter Adam Engel who singled, and was brought home by White Sox batter Eloy Jimenez who, on his first pitch, crushed it for home run.  A walk later, and then White Sox batter Andrew Vaughn homered to center field for a 2-run home run. White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease took the mound to throw the bottom of the inning. By the end of the 1st inning, the White Sox led the Cubs 5-0.

Cubs Struggle to Keep Up

In the top of the 2nd inning, Jimenez hit a 2-run double. In the bottom of the 2nd, Cubs batter Frank Schwindel hit a 2-run single to center field. The score was 7-2 White Sox by the end of the 2nd inning. In the bottom of the 3rd, Cubs batter Greg Deichmann hit an RBI single that brought the score to 7-3 White Sox. In the top of the 5th inning, Eloy Jimenez hit a 95 mph fastball for a solo home run.  In the bottom of that inning, Cease threw 3 consecutive strikeouts. In the bottom of the 6th, White Sox pitcher Reynaldo Lopez relieved Cease after 92 pitches. In the top of the 7th inning, Andrew Vaughn singled an RBI. The White Sox extended the lead to 9-3 by the end of the 7th inning. In the bottom of the 8th, White Sox pitcher Ryan Tepera took the mound for Lopez. In the bottom of the 9th inning, White Sox swapped pitchers again for Jose Ruiz in hopes of closing the game. Ruiz threw 3 consecutive strikeouts to close the game and sweep the city series. The White Sox beat the Cubs 9-3.
