State Rep. Haas Sees Two Bills Pass IL House with Unanimous Votes (Springfield, IL) — Last week, State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee), saw two of her bills pass with unanimous votes.

House Bill 4059 will ensure there is access to programs statewide by requiring the Department of Children and Family Services, or any State agency that assumes daycare licensing responsibilities, to host licensing orientation programs at least twice annually in each representative district in the State.

“The passage of House Bill 4059 is the first step in addressing the critical shortage of licensed daycare providers in the state of Illinois,” said Rep. Haas. “This bill ensures the Department of Children and Family Services continues to host at least two licensing orientation programs in each district for individuals interested in becoming daycare providers.”

Rep. Haas continued, “If we want to address the shortage of daycare providers, we need to start by creating pipelines for interested applicants from all corners of Illinois. Addressing this shortage is a bipartisan issue that affects every district in the state, and I look forward to seeing the legislation receive similarly high support when it’s taken up by the Senate.”

House Bill 5174 addresses the current law that mandates how many hours retired law enforcement officers can work before their pension benefits are suspended.

“Today’s passage of House Bill 5174 is a huge win for law enforcement officers and school safety,” said Rep. Haas. “This bill will incentivize retired law enforcement officers to return to work as school safety officers by ensuring their pension benefits are not suspended.”

Currently, retired law enforcement officers who work more than 599 hours per year are considered full-time employees and have their pension benefits suspended. House Bill 5174 would raise the limit to 999 hours per year, assuring that retired law enforcement officers who want to work as school safety officers keep their earned annuities.

Rep. Haas concluded, “This bill is a win-win for everyone involved. It supports law enforcement officers who want to return to work and it makes our schools safer. I look forward to this bill receiving continued bipartisan support in the Senate.”
