Royals steamroll White Sox defense (Chicago, Illinois) – In the second game of the 3-game series against the Royals the White Sox brought out starting pitcher Luces Giolito to throw out the first pitch. In the top of the first inning, Royals batter Ryan O’Hearn hit a sacrifice fly to cement the first run of the night. At the end of the first inning, the Royals led the White Sox 1-0. In the top of the 2nd inning, Royals batter Edward Olivares homered to left field. In the same inning, Royals batter Whit Merrifield hit an RBI single and at the end of the 2nd inning, the White Sox trailed the Royals 3-0.
Royals Pull Away
In the top of the 3rd inning, Royals batter Salvador Perez crushed a 2-run single to left field that extended the lead over the White Sox. Royals batter Michael A. Taylor hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the 4th inning that brought the score to 6-0 Royals. In the top of the 5th inning, the White Sox relived Giolito with White Sox pitcher Matt Foster at the mound. In the top of the 7th inning, White Sox pitcher Jose Ruiz replaced Foster. Soon after, Foster tossed out a 97 mph fastball that Royals batter hit to center field for a 2-run home run. At the end of the 7th inning, the Royals pushed away from the White Sox with the score at 8-1 Royals. In the top of the 8th, Royals batter Nicky Lopez grounded an RBI single. The score was 9-1 going into the last inning. White Sox pitcher Aaron Bummer replaced Ruiz for a groundout, flyout, and strikeout in the top of the 9th inning. White Sox batters Jose Abreu and Eloy Jimenez both struck out and White Sox rookie grounded out to close the game. The Royals beat the White Sox 9-1.
