Rep. Rita Celebrates Major Investment in South Suburbs with New Pace Facility (Springfield, IL)State Rep. Bob Rita joined Pace, Governor JB Pritzker, Illinois State Representative William Q. Davis, Illinois State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin, Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman, and Executive Director Malinda Metzger, along with Pace board members and state and community leaders, earlier this month to celebrate the completion of Pace’s new facility in Markham.

Pace’s latest investment in the south suburbs marks a significant milestone in modernizing operations, bolstering the agency’s south suburban workforce, and enhancing our central Safety and Training, including the introduction of a bus operator training course.

“Pace has been an important part of my work on supporting transportation over the years, and together, we are making a major investment in the Southland with these new facilities, which will employ hundreds of people, better organize the buses serving the area, and create new ways to train drivers,” said Rep. Bob Rita. “I want to thank the team at Pace for being a good partner with me to help improve transportation for this area and the entire region as we celebrate these new facilities today and look forward to where we are headed in the future. We are putting safety first here and pumping millions of dollars into the local economy.”

The site has spurred economic development through job creation and will improve access to employment by supporting Pace service throughout the south suburbs.

The Southland campus project was made possible by the historic Rebuild Illinois capital program. In total, the state provided $34.2 million in funding, including Rebuild Illinois. Additional funding was provided by the Federal Transportation Administration ($1.3 million), Regional Transportation Authority Bonds ($1.9 million), and Pace capital funds ($2.6 million).
