Planned Parenthood Illinois Action Backs Erin Slone in Race for State Representative (Kankakee, IL) (PRESS RELEASE) — With women’s access to health care facing unprecedented threats and a mission to get behind candidates who will protect that access, Planned Parenthood Illinois Action is endorsing Erin Slone in her bid to serve in the Illinois House of Representatives.

“Planned Parenthood Illinois Action is honored to support Erin Slone in the race for State Representative of the 79th House District,” Jennifer Welch, President & CEO of Planned Parenthood Illinois Action said. “Erin is a bold leader on reproductive health care and someone we want in the State Capitol fighting for all Illinois residents.  She is committed to taking on those politicians who are turning back the clock on women’s rights, and we are proud to stand with her.”

According to Slone, the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, demands that Illinois bolster protections for women’s reproductive rights so the state can be a safe haven for its residents and others in states where restrictive laws have been adopted. Slone says she will be an aggressive and fierce advocate for a woman’s right to choose in Illinois and access to birth control and other critical women’s health services, such as breast cancer screenings.

“The need to preserve and expand reproductive health care choices is paramount and I will do everything in my power as a state lawmaker to keep the hands of out-of-touch politicians off of our bodies,” Slone said. “I am honored to receive the support of Planned Parenthood Illinois Action, and I will never waiver in my advocacy for women’s access to health care.”

In addition to focusing on women’s medical needs, Slone says she will fight for equal pay for working women, paid family leave and sick leave, to make childcare more affordable, and to stop workplace sexual harassment.

Slone, a finance professional, resides in Park Forest, where she serves as Village Trustee.  The newly drawn Illinois House District 79 includes portions of Bourbonnais, Bradley, Crete, Kankakee, Monee, Park Forest, Peotone, Richton Park, University Park, and several nearby smaller communities in Cook, Kankakee, and Will Counties.
