Owner of a New Southland Restaurant Receives Award (Country Club Hills, IL) – The owner of a Country Club Hills, IL restaurant received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award last week.

One of the owners of Hook and Reel Cajun Seafood & Bar, Elvy Smith, received the award at her restaurant from the Southland Black Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Hook & Reel celebrated their grand opening and ribbon cutting on September 18, 2020.

According to Chamber President and CEO, Dr. Cornel Darden Jr., Ms. Smith was deserving of this award because, “She has shown great resolve and creativity in opening her restaurant given the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. During a time when many business, especially restaurants and bars, are struggling to keep their doors open, Hook and Reel is thriving despite opening during the pandemic.”

He continued by saying that, “Hook and Reel has really made a name for themselves. All the hard work that Ms. Smith has put into making her restaurant stand apart from the rest has really paid off when you look at how successful Hook and Reel has become. We are proud to give her this award.”

Since opening in September, Hook and Reel Cajun Seafood & Bar has been forced to get creative through COVID mitigation shutdowns, limited indoor seating capacities, and the general fear many still feel when faced with going out to a restaurant or bar. Hook and Reel has found a way to be hot despite all this. They held parking lot parties where a DJ would play music that could be picked up on your car’s radio. When Governor Pritzker finally allowed for alcoholic drinks to be taken to-go, Hook and Reel immediately added drinks to their takeout repertoire. Now that indoor dining is finally being allowed again, they are hosting live DJ’s, holding open mic nights, and more.

Hook and Reel Cajun Seafood & Bar is located at 4029 167th St. in Country Club Hills. They are continuing to offer carryout service in addition to their dine in service. You can download a copy of their menu here:
