Orland Park Turkey Trot Returns for 34th Year (Orland Park, IL) — Orland Park’s annual Turkey Trot is a holiday mainstay for many in the region. This year marks the event’s 34th year and the Village is expecting a sold out event once again. The chip timed race is held on Thanksgiving morning and has become a highly anticipated tradition for many Orland Park residents and their guests looking to kick off the holiday with a brisk run before sitting down to their annual feasts.

The race features a 2.5-mile cross-country course that takes runners and walkers through paved roads, paths and picturesque wooded areas of Orland Park, including the infamous hill of the John Humphry Woods.

“Many people of all ages look forward to the Turkey Trot every year,” said Mayor Keith Pekau. “It is great to see children, teens and adults spending time together participating in this annual family tradition.”

All race participants receive a long-sleeved dri-fit race shirt, refreshments and are entered into a post-race drawing for prizes.

“We have so many interested participants that the event sells out early each year,” said Pekau. “We recommend that runners register early to ensure a spot in the race.”

Registration is available online at orlandpark.org and in-person at the Orland Park Sportsplex, located at 1351 W 159th Street, and at the Frederick T. Owens Village Hall, located at 14700 S. Ravinia Avenue.

A frozen turkey will be awarded to the top overall male and female finishers. Special turkey trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each of 14 age groups, male and female, ranging in age from U9 to 70+. Pre-registration is required and limited to 1000 participants.

Race fees are $21 for residents and $25 for non-residents until October 31, 2022. Beginning November 1, fees will increase to $26 for residents and $30 for non-residents.

Pre-race packet pickup is available November 18 through November 22 at The Human Race Sports located at 15148 S. La Grange Road in Orland Park. Day of race packet pickup is also available at the event site beginning at 6:30 a.m.
