Orland Park Kiwanis Helps Renovations at Crisis Center Shelter (Tinley Park, IL) — A major expansion of the Emergency Shelter at the Crisis Center for South Suburbia began in the winter months of this year in order to have more bedrooms available for families who were victims of domestic violence. When the Orland Park Kiwanis Club found out that they could help, they immediately stepped up.
Fifteen bedrooms needed flooring replaced with the new renovations. Dated carpets needed to be removed and new flooring installed to ensure a healthy environment for clients and their children. The club donated $15,000 to make it happen.
“Whenever we need something crucial for our clients’ needs, the Orland Park Kiwanis Club is always there for us,” said Lorri Nagle, Advancement Officer at the Crisis Center. “They have been amazing Community Champions for us for so long. We are so grateful for their passionate support.”
The Kiwanis Club of Orland Park has been giving to the Crisis Center for well over 20 years. They have funded several large-scale projects, made in-kind donations, and supported fundraising events. Crisis Center volunteers also help staff Kiwanis’ weekly Bingo event held at the Orland Park Civic Center every Wednesday, where proceeds go to various non-profits in surrounding communities.
The Crisis Center for South Suburbia has been providing free emergency shelter, housing, counseling, advocacy, and education services for almost 45 years in Chicago’s south suburbs.
Domestic violence can be physical, financial, emotional, and sexual. It is the most common but least reported crime in the US. One in three women and one in four men in Illinois will be victims of domestic violence in their lifetime.
