Olive-Harvey College and Governors State University announce new transfer agreement for those earning their Associate of Applied Science with a focus in Cannabis Studies (Chicago, IL) – (August 29, 2024) – Governors State University (GovState) and City Colleges of Chicago, today, announce a new transfer agreement for students earning an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) with a focus in Cannabis Studies from Olive-Harvey College’s Urban Agriculture Department. Students in this pathway now have the option to transfer all their credits to Governors State University.
“Governors State University is proud to partner with Olive-Harvey College on their Urban Agriculture Applied Science program,” said President Cheryl Green. “This pathway allows more students to graduate with a four-year degree faster, while learning about the importance of the business industry, medicinal value, and the related disciplines such as political science, sociology and psychology. This is an exciting time for the communities that GovState serves to create career and entrepreneurial opportunities for economic growth in the state of Illinois.”
Credits from Olive-Harvey College’s Cannabis Studies pathway articulate into five bachelor’s degree programs available at GovState:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology & Sociology
- Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice
- Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies
- Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business & Applied Sciences

The completion of the Cannabis Studies pathway at Olive-Harvey College prepares individuals to work in the various scientific aspects of the cannabis industry as well as the legal, compliance, cultivation, advocacy, and business aspects of the industry. Individuals will have the opportunity to advance directly into the industry or a bachelor’s degree at a 4-year institution. This program is housed within the Urban Agriculture Department, which emphasizes sustainable agricultural practices and innovative urban farming techniques, aligning well with the holistic approach required for the cannabis industry.
