Monica Gordon, Candidate for 5th District Cook County Commissioner, Issues Statement Regarding WTTW Electrical Workers’ Strike (Cook County, Ill.) — Monica Gordon, Democratic candidate for 5th District Cook County Commissioner, issued the following statement regarding the WTTW Channel 11 strike:

“I stand in solidarity with the IBEW workers in strike at WTTW and will not participate in WTTW’s candidate airtime until the action is fully resolved,“ said Gordon. “We must stand with our brothers and sisters in labor as they fight for what they deserve.”

The dozen WTTW technicians, graphic artists and floor crew members, who are all members of IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local 1220, went on strike at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, March 16, 2022. This is the first strike in the history of WTTW, a PBS-member television station. The strike comes after close to a year of contract negotiations and after four years of grievances, four of which advanced to arbitration where the decisions came in favor of the union. IBEW Local 1220 has been working with WTTW since the 1950s.
