Mijente PAC and ICIRR ACTION Surpasses 85,000 Voter Contacts with Latino Chicagoans in Just Four Weeks (Chicago, IL) — Harnessing their combined door-knocking, phonebanking, and organizing power, Mijente PAC and Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights Action (ICIRR Action) have made contact with more than 85,000 Chicago Latino voters in the last four weeks – the city’s largest Latino voter outreach operation during the runoff.

“We are doing everything in our power to educate our communities about the importance of this election for their community, and ensure that every Latino voter in the city has their voice heard today,” said Mijente Political Director Tania Unzueta. “Paul Vallas is a right-wing conservative who does not respect people of color, has betrayed our public schools, and associates with the same MAGA Republicans who will never represent our interests. There is huge electoral power in the Latino voting bloc, and we are mobilizing it by meeting Chicago voters where they are and in the language that they speak — addressing the issues closest to their hearts and urging them to turn out for Brandon Johnson.”

Mijente made a $200,000 investment in Chicago this cycle – knocking doors, dialing numbers, and hitting the streets for Latino candidates committed to fighting for working families.

In the last four weeks alone, the organization hired more than 50 community organizers. Together, they hit 18,294 doors, and made more than 67,200 calls to voters.

“We believe in a Chicago that works for everyone, regardless of where you live – that means strong public schools, affordable housing, and safe neighborhoods,” said Lawrence Benito, executive director of ICIRR Action. “Paul Vallas aligns with right-wing, anti-immigrant racists, and we know he will move our city backward for communities of color. This election is so critical because Brandon Johnson is aligned with our communities and will bring us closer to achieving our vision. We know that conversations have the power to sway voters, and every day we moved people from being on the fence to being on the side of our communities.”

In recognition of the pluralism of the city’s Latino population, and with respect to the unique ethnicities, languages, and places Latinos call home, Mijente has developed messaging and digital advertising that micro-target unique demographic communities in Chicago.

“We know that Latinos are carving out political power in this city – the down ballot races on primary night are proof,” continued Unzueta. “When campaigns produce authentic, principled, community-focused candidates – and commit the resources to turning out voters in our neighborhoods – we’ll move the needle.”
