Mayor Rogers Hosts Largest Coat Giveaway Despite COVID-19 Pandemic (Dolton, IL) – It is a well-known fact that Chicagoland winters are cold and snowy.

Mayor Riley H. Rogers hosted a coat giveaway to keep children warm this season. Hundreds of children lined up to select their color-coordinated winter gear at the third annual coat giveaway.

In partnership with Operation Warm, this year’s giveaway doubled in size despite COVID-19 Pandemic.

Rogers said, “The pandemic has pushed local business owners to step up and support the needs of the community like never before.”

Volunteers gathered early to organize 600 coats, scarves, hats, and gloves in all colors and sizes for children. Volunteers, under Roger’s instruction, spent the early morning hours implementing COVID-19 procedures. Volunteers organized the coats by size and used signs to maintain social distancing. There was also a limit on the number of parents and children that could shop at a time. Parents and grandparents expressed gratitude while helping their children select coats.

This year was about more than coats, it’s about bringing smiles to children’s faces and joy to families.

After the success of this year’s coat giveaway, Mayor Rogers and his team discuss the possibility of another coat giveaway.

“We are still in the midst of the pandemic, and families are in need,” said Rogers.

With new winter coats in hand, children across Dolton are prepared for the cold and snowy days this winter is sure to bring.
