Major Natural Gas Savings Implemented with People’s Gas (Cook County, IL) — Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and the Cook County Bureau of Asset Management, in partnership with Peoples Gas, held a press conference Friday morning to announce a recent successful effort in natural gas saving measures.

Across several buildings in the county portfolio, the Bureau of Asset Management partnered with Peoples Gas to implement important changes that will result in a significant reduction in natural gas usage. The skilled tradespeople at the Department of Facilities Management and the Cook County Health and Hospital Building and Grounds made changes and upgrades to ventilation, boilers, steam traps and insulation. These changes will drastically reduce natural gas usage, saving the county 900,000 therms, or the equivalent of the energy usage of 600 homes for one year.

“We are always looking for ways to collaborate to implement energy efficiency measures, save costs, and conserve natural resources. I would like to thank our facilities professionals for their work to help implement these changes, and look forward to the other ways the county can collaborate across departments and buildings to move us closer to ambitious our sustainability goals.”, said President Preckwinkle after the press conference at the County Building.

These changes will result in cost savings for the county and a step forward toward reaching the County’s goal of 100% carbon neutrality by 2030. More information about the Clean Energy Plan can be found here:
