Karin Norington-Reaves Raises $340,000 to Date for Congressional Bid (Chicago, IL) —  Today, Democratic candidate for Congress Karin Norington-Reaves announced that she raised $291,000 in the 1st quarter of 2022 in her bid to represent the First District of Illinois and is just shy of $350,000 raised to date.

“I am overwhelmed by the number of people who have supported, encouraged, and prayed over me in this campaign,” said Norington-Reaves. “As I talk to voters across the district, I’m hearing so much enthusiasm for my record reforming workforce development and putting more than 100,000 people in good-paying, often union, jobs. They know this is the kind of representative we need in Congress if we’re going to create more economic opportunity in the 1st and make our communities safer.”

Since her announcement, Norington-Reaves has also been endorsed by retiring Rep. Bobby Rush, The Collective PAC, Democrats Serve, and is on the NewDem Action Fund’s candidate watchlist.

About Karin Norington-Reaves

Karin Norington-Reaves is a public servant and change agent with 30 years of experience in job creation, education, advocacy, and community development. A third-generation Chicagoan, Karin is the daughter of an Air Force veteran and sheet metal worker father and an entrepreneur and business coach mother. From an early age, she watched her mother advocate for, mentor, and serve others.

For the past decade, Karin was the CEO of the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership, the nation’s most extensive and effective publicly-funded workforce development system. Under her leadership since it began in 2012, The Partnership has focused on connecting people to careers, and businesses to high-quality talent, impacting Chicagoland’s neighborhoods and business communities.

Among Karin’s leadership accomplishments in the past decade are the roughly 100,000 people placed into long-lasting, often union, careers, and her management of half a billion dollars of economic investments in job training and placement and business development. Karin recognizes and amplifies the unique, untapped potential of individuals and Chicagoland communities through job placement and occupational training, and has collaborated with more than 2,000 businesses to create jobs in underserved neighborhoods. She is a catalyst for change and leads by serving others, advocating for equity in all economic opportunities in every space she sits in.

Karin has also fought for youth and families as a litigator, advocate, non-profit leader, and adjunct law professor, working in the fields of mental health law, community and workforce development, education, and public utility consumer protection. Of all her roles Karin considers “Mama” her most noteworthy title. Karin and her crew — two kiddos and two dogs — live in Chatham.
