ISVMA Recognizes Illinois Veterinary Professionals for 2022 Excellence in Animal Healthcare (Springfield, IL) — The Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association (ISVMA) presented its annual awards before membership at its recently held convention. The awards recognize Illinois veterinarian professionals who provide compassionate care for companion animals and livestock, and whose actions impact organized veterinary medicine in Illinois.
“The ISVMA is proud to present these veterinary professionals with recognition they deserve as they practice and advocate humane animal healthcare throughout the state,” said Devon Hague, DVM, DACVIM (Neurology), University of Illinois Veterinary College of Medicine, and ISVMA’s Immediate Past President.
“These professionals were nominated by their peers and selected by the ISVMA’s Nominations and Awards Committee. To be selected for these awards is truly a statement of honor when your fellow veterinary professionals choose you to be recognized, thanks to exemplary service for the animals in which we are charged to care. Congratulations to these talented and skillful veterinary award recipients!”
2022 ISVMA Veterinary Service Award
Presented to ISVMA members who have demonstrated outstanding service to the veterinary profession.
Christina Holbrook, DVM, Capitol Illini Veterinary Services, Springfield/Chatham. Dr. Holbrook is noted by her nominators as a professional who is always providing compassionate veterinary care for her client’s animal’s health. She is also known to promote a consistent positive attitude in supporting continuing education for her clinic’s team and is willing to mentor a new veterinary or certified veterinary technician student or staff assistant.
Dr. Holbrook received her DVM degree with honors from the University of Illinois’ College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. Since graduation, she has been practicing veterinary medicine at Capitol Illini Veterinary Services in both Springfield and Chatham. Dr. Holbrook has served on the ISVMA’s Board of Directors since 2015 and as a member of its Legislative Committee. She is also a past president of the Central Illinois Veterinary Medical Association.
2022 ISVMA President’s Award
Presented to an individual or group that has significantly advanced the interests of the veterinary profession in Illinois.
Kate Brucker, DVM, Albin Animal Hospital, Charleston; Lynette Hemker, DVM, Greenville Veterinary Clinic, Greenville; and Kiley Kelly, DVM, Albin Animal Hospital, Mattoon.
For the past four years, Drs. Brucker, Hemker and Kelly have been meeting both by ZOOM teleconference calls and in-person, monthly on a volunteer basis, with University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine fourth-year students to conduct diagnostic lab presentations. When in-person presentations are held, each takes time from seeing patients, driving from their respective communities to Urbana. They present, as a team, topical and current veterinary trends and practices so that students learn from the doctors’ real-world experiences.
2022 ISVMA Dr. Erwin Small First Decade Award
Awarded to a young veterinarian who has been practicing veterinary medicine in the last 10 years and has become a leader in supporting the profession through contributions to organized veterinary medicine.
Amanda Hampton, DVM, Chief of Staff, Banfield Pet Hospital, Chicago. Dr. Hampton is a 2013 University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine graduate. She participated and completed the ISVMA’s Power of 10 leadership program in 2018 and was a member of the ISVMA’s Board of Directors from 2018-2021. She is currently a co-chair of the ISVMA’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) working group that is actively creating and promoting sustainable programs that showcase DEI initiatives within Illinois’ veterinary profession. Dr. Hampton is also a member of the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association.
2022 ISVMA Dr. Cecil Ingmire CVT Award
Presented to a certified veterinary technician (CVT) who has demonstrated a strong commitment to the profession through involvement in organized veterinary medicine.
Elizabeth Stark, CVT, Veterinary Technician Recruitment and Development Manager, Heartland Veterinary Partners, Chicago. Stark is enthusiastic about the CVT profession, actively engaged in promoting educational learning opportunities for students enrolled in CVT college courses, as well as graduates employed as CVTs in veterinary clinics and hospitals across Illinois.
She embraces collaboration with others in the profession in efforts to create visibility and recognition for contributions made by CVTs so both students and CVTs learn and grow as vital links between animals, pet owners, clinicians and veterinarians alike. Stark is a member of the ISVMA’s CVT Committee; she is a 2014 graduate of the Veterinary Technical Institute at Fox College in Tinley Park.
