Illinois Progressive Organization Endorses Jonathan Jackson, Candidate for Congress, 1st Congressional District (Chicago, IL) – Our Revolution Illinois (ORI), the state affiliation of the national, progressive political action organization that spun out of the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign of 2016, is throwing its support behind Jonathan Jackson, candidate for Congress in the 1st Congressional District of Illinois, ORI Chairman Emeritus Clem Balanoff announced today.
“We know him,” Balanoff pointed out. “It’s not only what he plans to do [when elected], but what he has already done to move the ball forward.”
ORI is a state network run by local grassroots organizers. It is part of one of the largest grassroots political organizations in America, according to Balanoff. Touting the tagline “Campaigns End. Movements Endure,” the national Our Revolution organization’s mission is to educate voters about issues, get people involved in the political process, and work to organize and elect progressive candidates. “Jonathan checks all of the boxes,” Balanoff confirmed, regarding OR Illinois’ endorsement of Jackson. “He’s for Medicare for all, canceling student loan debt, and protecting voting rights. He has long been involved in civil rights. Based on his record, Jonathan will be an instant leader for pushing progressive priorities.”
Jackson said, “This Our Revolution Illinois endorsement means a lot to me. The issues the organization espouses, such as workers’ rights, clean energy, and criminal justice reform, to name a few, are in alignment with my beliefs about the type of policies that will deliver the best long-term benefits to the 1st Congressional District.”
