IL Freedom Caucus Statement on CDC Recommendations (Springfield, IL) — The Illinois Freedom Caucus is today issuing the following statement on new vaccine recommendations that children as young as six months old should get the COVID-19 vaccine.
“These recommendations are not mandates – yet. But we all know where this is headed. We also know that state governments could use these recommendations as a basis to create statewide mandates to be imposed on local school districts to require COVID-19 vaccines as a condition of enrollment.
There is no compelling reason at this point to mandate vaccines. Those who have been vaccinated and boosted can still get and transmit COVID-19.
This reckless decision from the CDC is only going to embolden the very same people who locked down our economy, kept kids out of school and prevented people from getting non-COVID-19 related health issues addressed during the pandemic. The last thing we need to do is empower these people again. Parents – not bureaucrats – should have agency over the healthcare decisions for their children.
There is no question the CDC recommendations are based on politics – not science and is intended to drive school boards to enforce COVID-19 vaccine mandates. We have and will continue to oppose the blatant political activism of government agencies at the federal and state level. We support the rights of parents to make these decisions themselves and will continue to advocate for families across the state. It is time for parents to wake up and reclaim their parental authority before it is too late.”
