Humphrey House Fundraiser Planned for Aug 27 (Orland Park, IL) — The Village of Orland Park will host the inaugural Humphrey House Fundraiser on Saturday, August 27 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the John Humphrey House located at 9830 W. 144th Place in Orland Park.

The Humphrey home was built in 1881 by Illinois Senator John Humphrey. It was the second home built in Orland Park and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Humphrey, a native of Wisbech, England, arrived with his family in 1848 to the area that would become Orland Park. Humphrey purchased a large plot of land in anticipation of the expansion of the Wabash, St. Louis & Pacific Railroad.

“We are very proud of Orland Park’s history,” said Mayor Keith Pekau. “The efforts made by the Village to preserve Orland Park’s history will be cherished for years to come by those who currently call Orland Park home as well as those who will do so 100 years from now.”

Orland Park History Museum Curator Sarah Stasukewicz will host the event at the historic Humphrey House that will showcase many important restorations and unique historical pieces.

“Never before have we hosted such an immersive historical tour highlighting the rich history of Orland Park,” Stasukewicz said. “I’m especially looking forward to sharing the upcoming plans for this historic home.”

Upon arrival at 3 p.m., guests will be invited to take a tour through time to historic Orland Park sites to learn about the Village’s rich history. Guests will board buses to visit multiple stops along the way where the fascinating history of each site will be shared while appetizers are served.

The tour will start out at the Hostert Cabins, continue to the Chiappetti Slaughterhouse then on to the Orland Park History Museum. From there guests will head back to the Old Orland area to the Humphrey House. Attendees will enjoy a presentation highlighting future plans for the historic house. Live music will be provided by House of Music and hors d’oeuvres from Gaston’s Bistro will be served throughout the event.

All guests must be at least 21 years of age to attend. Ticket price is $50 and all proceeds will directly benefit the upkeep and restoration of the Humphrey House.
