Henyard Referendum Passes; Dolton Mayor May Be Out Come November
Henyard Referendum Passes; Dolton Mayor May Be Out Come November (Dolton, IL) — Ballots in Dolton had two referendum questions presented to voters. The first question asked whether the village should create a way to recall the mayor before their term has ended. The second question asked whether Tiffany Henyard should be recalled. Tonight, it appears that the referendum has passed.
Earlier today, Mayor Henyard issued the following statement on the Appellate Court First District Fifth Division decision to allow recall votes to be counted pending a final decision from the Court.
“I am disappointed in the Appellate Court’s decision requiring illegal recall votes to be counted in today’s election. The merits of this case are clear. It is an Unconstitutional referendum and while there is certainly no time to print new ballots, there is no valid reason to compel election authorities to count the votes.
“This decision, though, has no bearing on the outcome of this case. Judge Paul Karkula’s ruling was clear. There is no Constitutional basis for the recall referendum on the ballot and I am confident the Appellate Court will concur.
“I had 82 percent of the support of the electorate in the 2021 election. The political opportunists behind this recall effort may very well regret asking the Court to allow the recall votes to be counted as they might not like the results.”

We don’t regret a damn thing. Except for maybe we can’t recall her again and again just for the fun of it.
