Haas Welcomes New Term in Illinois House (Kankakee, IL) — Yesterday State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) was sworn into office to represent the people of the 79th District in the Illinois House for the 103rd General Assembly. The Representative stood alongside 40 other Republican members to renew her oath of office and commitment to serving the people of Illinois.
Today marks the first day of the 103rd General Assembly and is Representative Haas’s third term in office. Haas’ 79th District includes portions of Kankakee, Will, and Grundy counties.
The Representative is working to file various pieces of legislation focused on some of Illinois’ biggest challenges. With over 30 years of experience working as a social worker in underserved communities, Haas has been a strong proponent of improving public health and safety issues in the legislature, as well as the state’s larger systemic fiscal issues. Her legislative priorities this term will focus on public safety, health care, and economic development for the 79th District –as well as ensuring constituent’s voices are continually heard.
“As we enter this new General Assembly, I am focused on issues that affect not only our great state but my district at home,” said Haas. “We have a growing public safety crisis and the largest tax burden of any state—those issues will be the driving force behind my priorities this year, and I look forward to passing legislation that will work to improve those significant issues.”
Haas is optimistic she can continue to work across the aisle to get work done. “It is important that we move forward together, and I am ready to work with my colleagues in the House to accomplish the great things our state and our residents deserve.”
The House of Representatives will commence legislative session today in Springfield. Constituents in Haas’ 79th District can monitor her legislation as well as legislative updates and live video feeds on ilga.gov.
