Gubernatorial Candidate Jesse Sullivan Responds to Gov Pritzker’s Latest Executive Order (Petersburg, IL) – Republican candidate for governor Jesse Sullivan issued this statement in response to JB Pritzker’s Executive Order and press conference:

“While I am glad that on his way to an international summit in Europe, JB Pritzker found the time to speak on the crime epidemic plaguing our communities, I am disappointed that he fell back on typical far left talking points: blame guns, and throw money at the problem.”

“The fact remains that we have a crisis of trust and accountability in our cities. Chicago State’s Attorney Kim Foxx dismisses 35% more felony charges than her predecessor. Communities have lost faith in prosecutors to incarcerate criminals. Bail reform in Chicago has made it more likely that criminals are released back onto our streets – this will soon be the law of the land. And police have lost faith in elected leaders to have their backs.”

“The result is widespread distrust, and a culture of impunity which has led to an escalation of crime of all sorts; even property crime in Illinois is 25% higher than the national average. Rather than speak out and assist police investigations, people remain silent out of fear, and mothers like Angela Gregg cannot get justice for their loved ones.”

Leadership

“Leadership is about prioritization. This governor has prioritized divisive social wedge issues – like abortions without parental notification for 14 year olds – rather than addressed the deep structural issues at the core of our state’s problems. Corrupt career politicians enrich themselves, and criminals flourish. Regular people suffer.”

“As governor, I will vocally support our law enforcement, advocate for the return to constitutional community policing, and push for prosecutorial accountability that results in the arrest and prosecution of violent criminals. Real leaders do not avoid taking responsibility for what is hard; they embrace what is right. That is the leadership Illinoisans deserve.”
