Dixmoor Mayor Fitzgerald Roberts Testifies in Support of Measure Providing Possible Grant Eligibility for Disaster-Stricken Communities (Dixmoor, IL) — Dixmoor Mayor Fitzgerald Roberts testified last week in support of a bill creating a path for communities such as Dixmoor to again become eligible for state grants.

The Committee approved House Bill 2341 on a vote of 9-0. The measure allows a local government to submit a request to the Grant Accountability and Transparency Unit to be exempt from certain audit requirements if the local government is unable to meet the audit requirements due to circumstances beyond the local government’s control, including, but not limited to, a natural disaster in which financial records of the local government are destroyed or alleged employee misconduct involving the destruction or withholding of financial records.

“We have had difficulties getting our audits done because important records were destroyed by prior administrations. We need these audits completed so that we can qualify to get some much-needed grants for our community,” Roberts said. “We have been able to make some progress on resolving our water issues but more needs to be done. This legislation would give Dixmoor hold us harmless for the incomplete audits and allow us to apply for some grants to resolve our water issues and help us move forward. I thank State Representative Will Davis for co-sponsoring this legislation which will help the people of Dixmoor.”
