Bryant’s Administration with Possible Asbestos Contamination (Robbins, IL) – There have been several reports from residents of Robbins, Illinois that they’ve allegedly witnessed illegal dumping by Mayor Darren Bryant’s administration. It’s has also been alleged that some of the recently demolished homes were able to be renovated.

There are currently piles of garbage on Utica street where residents are saying Mayor Bryant is having the garbage dumped.

One concerned citizen of Robbins had this to say on Facebook:

“Hi, everyone! My name is [redacted]; I am a disabled US Navy Veteran currently living in Robbins.

“I am writing on the advice of a local community member to inform you of a potentially hazardous situation to the community; in recent weeks I have noticed several dump trucks depositing loads of trash from demolished homes on the junkyard near Utica and Sacramento (see attached photos). The local rumor mill says these are abandoned homes being demolished for new developments, but that’s all I have heard.

“My concern, however, is the method in which they are disposing of the materials; the trucks are just dumping the refuse on the ground, with seemingly no concern for sanitization(sic) or environmental safety. Given these are likely old homes, I am worried about the possibility of asbestos and/or other harmful materials leaking into the groundwater and contaminating our community. Shouldn’t this trash be deposited in a landfill?

“I contacted the Mayor via Messenger but wanted to see if anyone in the community also has details on this issue and can provide clarification? It seems wrong to just dump everything with no care for environmental laws/standards.

“Thank you for your time.”

The Southland Journal is continuing to investigate this matter.
