Chicago GOP: “The Smollet Verdict Shows That Kim Foxx Has Got To Go.” (Chicago, IL) – The verdict of “guilty” in the Jussie Smollett trial convicted not only the defendant, but also the incompetent and biased administration of Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx.

“Foxx’s actions in the Smollett case is proof that there are two standards of justice in Cook County courts:  one for the elite and one for the rest of us,” said Chairman Steve Boulton. “This verdict shows that Foxx has got to go. We call for her resignation.”

What was just as disturbing was to see the press, supposed protectors of the public against governmental incompetence, try to sweep the matter away in service to ruling political elite, best exemplified by the recently published statement of the Tribune’s Rex Hupke: “Let us never speak of Jussie Smollett again.”  The same columnist had months earlier acknowledged the finding of Special Prosecutor Dan Webb that Foxx’s office never came clean on the original Smollett plea deal.  Dan Webb found that Foxx and her minions gave “significantly and meaningfully divergent explanations for how the resolution was reached.”  But now it is all damage control for the powerful, the very people the press should be confronting, not coddling.

Justice

“The people have a right to a State’s Attorney that is interested in justice,” Boulton continued. “In this case Smollett got a sweetheart deal for being a celebrity.  In the meantime, the very fabric of our city is being ripped apart by violence, where just his year almost sixty criminals have been accused of killing, trying to kill or shooting someone in Chicago while out on felony bond.”

Respect for the law is at an all-time low, as predators roam our streets with impunity.  We need a State’s Attorney who is interested in stopping it, but Kim Foxx is not that State’s Attorney.  She must resign.
