Arrest Made in the Case of Armed Robbery of Mail Carrier (Harvey, IL) — Harvey Police, in collaboration with the U.S. Postal Inspectors, successfully apprehended Xavier Starr of Lansing, IL, and Malik Washington of Gary, Indiana for the armed robbery case of a mail carrier that occurred on October 23, 2023. According to initial reports, the incident took place around 4:37 p.m. in the vicinity of 148th and Loomis while the mail carrier was on duty.

Harvey Police swiftly initiated an investigation that promptly began with the meticulous task of canvassing the area for potential video surveillance footage. Working in tandem with the U.S. Postal Inspectors, detectives obtained vital evidence, including video footage of the suspect vehicles. Utilizing advanced technology such as the License Plate Reader System (Flock), the team successfully identified one of the vehicles involved, leading to the apprehension of the suspects.

The case has been referred to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for review. Charges are currently pending against both individuals involved.
