Alderman Bill Conway Statement on NASCAR Announcement, Budget (Chicago, IL) – Following NASCAR’s announcement that the Chicago Street Race Weekend would return in July 2025, 34th Ward Alderman Bill Conway released this statement:

“NASCAR has been a good community partner, investing in local programs and updating residents on developments. However, in two surveys of my ward following each event, neighbors repeatedly asked for this not to be held on July 4th weekend, when the race blocks access to the park for weeks around a family holiday. I have been vocal in sharing their concerns with NASCAR and other City officials.”

“Once again, community feedback was not considered in this hasty decision that the Mayor’s Office made before we have a clear picture of the race’s financial impact on the city.”

“As we head into budget deliberations and face a $1 billion shortfall, we need to be particularly thoughtful about how we are spending taxpayer dollars and responding to residents’ concerns.”
