Who’s Committing Election Fraud at the Robbins Park District? (Robbins, IL) – The Robbins Park District board has come under fire this week regarding a number of issues. The upcoming Robbins Park District election is currently underway. The Southland Journal has received several reports of alleged election interference implicating members of the Park District board and staff. What we know is that the Robbins Park District currently has six board members, which represents an illegal board because Illinois State law requires an odd number of board members. This confusion took place during the last Park district election, where it is alleged that incorrect information was submitted to the Cook County Clerk. The Park District staff and some of their board members claim that the error was at the fault of the Cook County Clerk’s office.

The President of the Park District, Andrea Roberson, and the Robbins Park District Staff allegedly blocked the 3 newly and duly elected Robbins Park District Commissioners from taking their seats for over a year. Those 3 Commissioners were on the ballot in 2023 in a “Vote for Three” race. Ryan Buckley and Angelia Murphy-Watts were the top two vote-getters, and Terry Lee came in 3rd.

Court Rulings

After a year or so of being blocked from taking their seats as duly-elected commissioners, an Illinois Appellate Court Judge swore them in. That information was signed and sent in to the Clerk’s office. The Park District later formally filed suit and appealed to the Appellate Court.  The Appellate Court dismissed the case stating:

On the Clerk’s motion, the circuit court dismissed the declaratory judgment claim without prejudice and dismissed the claim for injunctive relief with prejudice. Robbins now appeals the dismissal of both of its claims, and it also contends that the circuit court erred in dismissing its claim for injunctive relief with prejudice and without an opportunity to amend. However, we observe that we do not have jurisdiction to review any component of Robbins’ appeal. Therefore, we dismiss the appeal.

Fast forward to September 2024, there is still alleged interference being conducted. Someone from the Robbins Park District allegedly submitted information to the Cook County Clerk’s office, changing Andrea Roberson’s seat from a four-year term to a six-year term. The voters of the Village of Robbins voted for Andrea Roberson to be elected to a 4 year term as seen in the photo below.

The Robbins Park District on Monday September 16th passed a Resolution allowing for only one vacancy in the upcoming election. That Resolution passed on Monday September 16th, 2024 is below:

The above resolution makes it so that Andrea Roberson, who the citizens of Robbins elected to a 4 year term, now doesn’t have to run for reelection. Someone from the Robbins Park District is alleged to have submitted documentation changing the term from four years to six years. It is currently unclear who submitted that paperwork to the Clerk’s office and why. Also in question is who directed that person to make such an update and why, although rumor has it that Ms. Roberson is circulating petitions for the upcoming Mayor’s race. She would be unable to run for both seats at the same time, which would be the case if her current term remained unchanged at four years.

Andrea Roberson’s position currently shows a six year term on the Cook County Clerk’s website:

The Robbins Park District Board meeting attendance was up on Monday, September 16th, with many local Robbins residents and even local elected officials from Robbins who were concerned about these issues.
