Bella Mia Offers Fine Italian Dining in the Southland (Midlothian, IL) – When you have been in the restaurant business for more than 30 years, it truly becomes a labor of love.  So when Randy Spears says he knows every aspect of his business, he is not exaggerating.

“I am here seven days a week and I served tables as a senior a few years ago with an apron and tie. I would introduce myself as Randy your server because I wanted to see what the actual servers’ life was like because it is a difficult profession,” said Spears, owner of Bella Mia, 4648 147th St. in Midlothian. “I shop for the meats and vegetables, traveling hours to make sure we get the best quality.”

Downtown Chicago Fine Dining in the South Suburbs

A slice of downtown Chicago fine dining in the south suburbs, the restaurant has served an expansive and authentic menu from fresh cut veal dishes and pork chops to traditional Italian fare for the past nine years. The majority of dishes are made to order with customers requesting more or less sauces, different spice levels and the main chiefs have been at the business since day one. Patrons will be impressed by not only the food but the atmosphere.

“We call it the galleria of dining because we have approximately 46 pieces of artwork with 60 percent being original,” said Spears. “We also had a lightning and color expert come in to create a soothing, relaxing and non stressful environment. You have a lot of stress in the world so we wanted to bring a calming atmosphere to fine dining.”

Spears Started His Career in Chicago

Spears started his career at 67th and California in the city with a pizzeria called Papa T’s; joking that he didn’t know the difference between pizza dough and pizza cheese. However he wanted to try something different with his life and believed he could be successful taking his chance.

In an effort to make for an overall excellence experience, he implemented each server having iPads so that each order would be correct and expedited to the kitchen. They make sure that every order comes to the tables within minutes of it being ready. He doesn’t believe in rushing anyone’s dining experience with some customers eating for two hours and just enjoying their evening.

Lifelong Passion

“I had someone come to me and just tell me that they don’t come out that much anymore because of the pandemic and they were telling us they had such a wonderful time,” said Spears.  I tell people to leave your cell phone elsewhere. I served a married couple and they were both on their phone. They said they were setting up a vacation and I told them you can do that tomorrow. How about setting up a vacation right now with a great dining experience for the both of you.”

Spears views Bella Mia as a lifelong passion that is more than a profession.

“A lot of restaurant entrepreneurs are in it for the just the dollars-don’t get me wrong it is an evil necessity to operate your payroll, but I always tell guests I am not here for the money,” said Spears. “We honor and love our seniors here and they are very loyal. I sit and talk to them because especially in this world today people push our seniors aside. This community supports our restaurant and we love it here. I love Bella Mia and Bella Mia loves me.”
